1986 Lotus Turbo Esprit HCI
We are offering this scarce, original owner, 33297 mile example of the 1986 Lotus Turbo Esprit HCI Coupe, at ! It has been very well maintained and is ready for use with an above average history report. The car looks stunning and makes people notice wherever you take it. Aside from the good looks, Lotus has bred their racing technology into most every aspect of this car. Due to the slippery shape and light weight, the 2174cc powerplant provides ample power with the Garrett Air Research T3 turbo, on boost. This Esprit is rated at 210bph and will propel the car to over 150 miles per hour on pump gas.
It is being shown in the desirable A23 Calypso Red color over a plush saddle leather interior combination. This Esprit is a rare HCI model ( High Compression Injection) that were only sold in 1986 & 1987 in the United States. This car is completely sorted with everything on the vehicle working well, as designed. All instrumentation including the clock, interior and exterior lighting are all fully functional. Recent replacements include, but are not limited to: battery, complete disc brake job, ignition wires, spark plugs, timing and all other belts, fuel injection components, w/w pump and oil and filter change.
The interior is in superb original condition. The after market floor mats, shown individually, protected the original ones from excess wear and tear. No real rust worries, of course, and the gaps are all very good. All minor stress crack repairs were completed so the paint on some of the panels aren’t identical shades. New factory lift pistons support the boot and bonnet perfectly. The sound system is a SONY with Blaupunkt speakers and the power antenna actually works. The protective under scuttle is like new and one of the few that we have ever seen present on one of these cars!
When first introduced, this Lotus could best the Ferrari 308 and the Porsche 911 according to Road and Track magazine. The engine starts right up from cold, settles in quickly and it is quiet and smooth. The stock exhaust system keeps the interior quiet and produces a mellow twin-cam turbo note out the back. Shifting and braking are on point. The car is surprisingly quick! The factory air conditioning works well enough to chill the cabin, but we feel it could benefit from an upgrade. All of the lightly tinted glass in the car is flawless.
The oil pressure (shown) is stellar and there are no noises from the valve train or other mechanical components. The seats adjust easily, electric windows move up and down smoothly, wiper, air horns and directionals are all spot on. The frunk is squeaky clean and complete with a factory wheel and spare tire, jack and tool kit. Also included are 2 complete sets of keys and the full set of original owner’s books. In addition is the very hard to acquire and expensive shop manual with pages of notes and bulletins. Other spares, including a new fuel pump, come with the car.
